How QATested collects, uses, and protects your personal information.

Last updated June 25, 2025

These documents are template policies for early launch. They are not legal advice. Have a qualified attorney review them before handling real users, payments, or identity documents at scale.

QATested LLC ("we", "us", or "our") operates QATested (qatested.io), a marketplace that connects software developers with independent testers. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect personal information when you use our website and application at https://app.qatested.io.

See also our Cookie & Data Notice.

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy describes how we handle personal information when you visit our marketing site, create an account, post or complete tests, verify your identity, receive payouts, or contact support.

It does not cover third-party websites or services linked from the platform.

2. Information we collect

We collect information you provide directly and information generated by your use of the platform.

  • Account data: name, email address, role, profile details, and authentication records via Clerk.
  • Developer data: company or project details, test instructions, form responses, billing history, payment metadata via Stripe, and WordPress plugin zip uploads for plugin tests.
  • Tester data: skills, availability, submissions, ratings, earnings records, Stripe Connect account status, and WordPress sandbox login details for assigned plugin tests.
  • Identity verification: government ID images and legal name submitted for tester verification.
  • Communications: messages with other users and moderation, support requests, and notification preferences.
  • Technical data: device/browser type, IP address, pages viewed, and a pseudonymous analytics client ID stored locally.

3. Identity documents

Some testers must submit a government-issued ID so we can verify identity before granting verified status or higher-trust access.

ID documents are stored in secure storage and reviewed only by authorized admins. They are not shared with developers or other testers.

We retain ID documents only as long as needed for verification, fraud prevention, legal compliance, and dispute resolution, then delete or restrict access where appropriate.

4. How we use information

We use personal information to:

  • Provide, secure, and improve the marketplace.
  • Process payments, payouts, refunds, and settlement.
  • Verify tester identity and enforce platform policies.
  • Send transactional email and optional product notifications you control.
  • Measure product usage with privacy-conscious analytics.
  • Provide optional AI coaching that reviews draft test briefs and submissions for QA quality (see sharing below).
  • Comply with law, respond to lawful requests, and protect users and the platform.

5. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as described below.

  • Developers see tester submissions and limited tester profile information needed to review work on their tests.
  • Testers see test instructions and developer-provided materials for claimed tests.
  • Service providers that help us operate the platform, including Clerk (auth), Supabase (database and file storage), Stripe (payments and Connect payouts), InstaWP (temporary WordPress sandbox hosting for plugin tests), Resend (email), our AI coaching provider (draft test brief and submission content you choose to review — not identity documents), and analytics infrastructure.
  • Moderators and admins with a legitimate need to support users, review verification, or enforce policies.
  • Authorities or other parties when required by law or to protect rights, safety, and security.

6. Payment information

Developers enter payment details directly with Stripe. We receive payment status, amounts, and limited billing metadata — not full card numbers.

Testers connect a payout account through Stripe Connect. Stripe collects banking and tax information required for payouts under its own privacy policy.

WordPress plugin tests use InstaWP to host temporary sandbox sites. Plugin zip files and sandbox credentials are processed to provision and operate those sites for the duration of a claim.

7. Retention

We keep personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and meet legal obligations.

When you request deletion, we delete or anonymize personal data where possible. Some records — such as payment, tax, fraud-prevention, or aggregated analytics data — may be retained longer where required or permitted by law.

8. Your choices and rights

You can update profile information in the app and manage email notification preferences in account settings.

You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data through account settings. We will confirm by email when processing is complete, subject to legal retention exceptions.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal information, or to object to certain processing. Contact us to exercise those rights.

9. Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information, including encrypted transport, access controls, and restricted admin access to verification documents.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Please use a strong password and notify us if you suspect unauthorized access.

10. International users

We are based in the United States. If you access the platform from other regions, your information may be processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate.

Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers.

11. Children

The platform is not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

12. Cookies and similar technologies

We use essential cookies and local storage for authentication, preferences, and security. We also use a pseudonymous analytics identifier and server-side analytics events.

See our Cookie & Data Notice for details and choices.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the effective date and, for material changes, provide additional notice where appropriate.
